Top 10 Event Trends of 2024

Make it stand outHello, fabulous party planners and celebration enthusiasts! 🎉

This is your go-to guide for everything chic and stylish in the world of events. If you’re gearing up to host a birthday bash, engagement soirée, or you’re finalising a wedding in 2024, you're in the right place.

Let’s dive into the top 10 event trends for this year that will make your event the talk of the town!

1. Sustainable Celebrations

Eco-friendly is no longer a buzzword; it’s a lifestyle. In 2024, sustainability is front and centre. Think recycled decor, digital invitations, confetti made from leaves or petals, and eco-conscious vendors. Not only are you saving the planet, but you're also setting a trend. Guests love a host who cares!

2. Micro Weddings and Intimate Gatherings

Bigger isn't always better. The trend towards smaller, more intimate events continues to rise. This is mostly due to the cost of living crisis we’re all experiencing, but it’s also because a lot of people are now focusing on larger honeymoons, shorter ceremonies and longer receptions with closer relatives and friends.  Micro weddings, with guest lists under 50, allow for personalised touches, gourmet dining experiences, and a relaxed atmosphere where you can truly connect with each guest.

3. Vibrant Colour Palettes

Say goodbye to neutrals and hello to colour! 2024 is all about vibrant hues. Think bold blues, radiant reds, and glamorous golds. Whether it's your table settings or your floral arrangements, don't be afraid to play with colour to make your event pop. And I’m not just talking about your classic, ‘I want autumn hues’, or ‘let’s go navy blue’, we’re talking bright oranges, multiple shades of pinks, all the pastels and even disco balls to bounce this light and colour around.

4. Experiential Dining

Food is no longer just something you eat; it’s an experience. Interactive food stations, chef demonstrations, and custom cocktail bars are a hit. Guests want to engage all their senses, and what better way than through unforgettable dining?
People are bringing this to their event through food trucks, personalised cocktails, gelati bars, DIY food bars, and I’ve even seen some teppanyaki stations which just screamed FUN.

5. Technology Integration

From holographic displays to augmented reality photo booths, tech is transforming the event space. Live streaming for remote guests and virtual reality experiences add an extra layer of excitement and inclusivity.
My favourite bit of tech at the moment for events is GuestPix (https://guestpix.com/). It is a photo sharing platform that generates a QR code that allows guests to upload photos for the host and each other to see without any of this fuss about collecting them or the constant bombarding of DMs or seeing photos from your wedding on socials that you’ve never seen before.

6. Personalised Touches

Customisation is key in 2024. Monogrammed details, bespoke favours, and custom playlists tailored to your event are all the rage. I am LOVING people writing personalised letters to their wedding guests. It is so sweet and makes guests feel truly loved and appreciated. These personalised touches can take time though, so make sure you cater that into your planning if you want to go down that route.

7. Maximalist Decor

Minimalism, step aside. Maximalism is here with its rich textures, bold patterns, and extravagant details. Think lush floral installations, statement furniture pieces, and plenty of glitter and glam. In 2024, my store room has been inundated by disco balls, glitter, wavy signs, floral pillars, ceiling installation pieces and glitter - and my clients are loving it! More is more!
This being said, minimalism has also been taking a step into the spotlight and we’ll be seeing almost as much of it in 2025 and beyond. It’s just looking a little different and focusing on smaller florals and actually being minimal as opposed to just being ‘clean looks’ or monochrome.

8. Wellness and Mindfulness

Wellness isn't just for yoga retreats anymore. Incorporating wellness elements like meditation corners, herbal tea stations, and even on-site massage therapists can make your event a rejuvenating experience for everyone. This has been particularly true for corporate events and also quite a few baby showers and hens parties that have gone down the pamper and relaxation route rather than crazy party avenue.

9. Retro Revival

Everything old is new again. Retro themes are making a comeback, from 70s disco vibes to 90s nostalgia. Vintage decor, classic cocktails, and throwback music playlists will transport your guests back in time. I have been coordinating a Miami Vice-themed 30th birthday party and I can’t tell you how excited people have been for the opportunity to dress up, enjoy a night of retro - especially the parents. This one has also included a phone ban and oh golly, the guests have been so keen to just enjoy a night of letting loose without everything being put on Snapchat.

10. Destination Events

Why not take your celebration on the road? Destination events are gaining popularity, offering a unique experience in a beautiful locale. Whether it's a beachfront wedding or a mountain-top birthday bash, travelling for your event adds a sense of adventure. Travel is definitely a priority for Millennials (and everyone after being restricted by C#vid) so people have been choosing to get married in their honeymoon location, host a birthday group holiday as opposed to a venue in their local city - and I’m all for it!
